Have you guys done a faq on how you put the Fluff Review together? The Man and I are thinking about doing our own podcast, cuz we are stupid and apparently need more shit to do. Cuz that would be cool. I'm crafty.

Hmmm...actually we've never really done an FAQ, but I'm totally all for doing one! Are you looking to do a talk show, music show, tap dance show?
If you are looking for the best way to publish a podcast, it's with wordpress and feedburner.
That's not actually the way Annie and I do it, since I have a stupid habit of writing code by hand. (One of these days I really need to go the wordpress route!)
As for recording programs, it depends on your quality. For instance if you want a show where you just record and then post, garageband 3 is totally the best, but if you want a show you actually edit then you'll want a better program....errr....I am not sure if I am being helpful in the least!
Ask me questions! I will answer them!
Also DOUBLE YAY! Both that you are listening to the show and liking it and that you might do one too!

we will prolly make stupid jokes and tell stories and i will call Andrew names when he says something particularly retarded. Wordpress is totally the shit. I used to be all about hand coding but then realized I was getting to lazy to do it so I didn't. Wordpress is neat once you set it up, i use it for the curdburglar site.
Um we will prolly need to edit a little. At work i have garage band but havent' used it, at home on the Mac Time Forgot i have some adobe stuff that I haven't used in a while. After Effects, that other one.
How you sign up on itunes to post podcasts? i think i will need to get an 8 key casio for stupid sound effects, tho i am not musically inclined so that will be something to look forward to. Also i think i need caffine pills cuz i am ALWAYS sleepy, just ask Andrew. he will say something jerky. cuz he's a jerk.

Here's all the specifics about submitting to itunes:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/podcaststechspecs.html
when I did it back in the day I remember it being much harder than this. OH YOU KIDS! YOU HAVE IT SO EASY!
It would have been awesome if you had a PC at home. I have a SUPER RAD audio program I can give ya. It's like a $800 program that my dad uses in the recording studio he runs. I still have yet to find a Mac program taht is easy to edit, and unfortunately Annie and I get rather drunk and talk too much and say evil things about murdering dogs a bit too much. Also, I make this annoying sound with my lips against my teeth sometimes that, if we didn't take it out, we'd lose all our listeners rather fast! Usually we record on my macbook and then I take it home and use the fancy PC software...since i can't afford nor find anything cool for mac yet.
Garageband 3 has TONS of stupid sound effects built in. If you record in mono (we do stereo because we like to be weird) it's actually kinda easy to edit as well!

I have a PC at home as well! For I am a N3RD!!! Do you have to record using garageband or can you import it? this is all so exciting and new! like when you go out on a date and are all happy, but then your date sez something stupid like i don't take advil cuz the coating comes from ground up bugs or something crazy like that(NOT a true story). Now we have to decide on the hardest part. THE NAME! We have some ideas, but really it just has to sound neat. I know how branding works. Seriously. I do.

I'm going to toot my penguin, because, well I like doing that. There's a good multi-track studio program being developed called 'Jokosher'. It's pretty neat, and looks very nice. It's also simple, and perhaps isn't $800 dollar feature rich, but it's quite nice. The next release (which is coming up soon, in about 2-3 weeks) will feature a plugin that will let you create those podcast feeds and even just directly plop them onto your server. And its FREE!
Here's the catch. It only runs on Linux.
(supposed to be evil laugh)
P.S.
Well, technically, it could be run on Windows or Mac (but harder on Mac), because all of it's components have been ported onto the windows && mac platforms (but mac isn't supported as well). You could always ask the Jokosher people for help though, they're really really nice guys.
So yes, i've done my social service and tooted the penguin and wasted your time. Muwhahahaha!
EDIT: Another free software that's pretty much defacto standard for podcasting of Linux shows (the only ones I really know about) is Audacity. It runs on Mac and Windows as well, without a hitch. It's supposed to be pretty affective, and good, but it looks pretty ugly. It's also Free Software.

Audacity is pretty good for general recording/editing. It lets you fiddle around with levels, effects and such, and pretty darn effective for a peice of freeware. I used to use it a lot to record multiple layers of musical instruments, so editing together voice and bits of music is pretty easy and straight forward. Also, because it's cross platform, you can edit the same file on PC's and Macs, which is pretty usefull if you're moving around alot between machines. On a par with Cakewalk (£300-£400), which I also used for a while.
I'm in the market for podcast making myself, as I'm planning on setting up a Podcast myself. Myself. I'm thinking about doing it with a different co-host each week over the web (tehehe). The newest version of garage band alows you to record voice feeds from iChat to use in a podcast, so I think it would be pretty cool. Any tips from any podcast Gurus out there would be much aprechiated!

Awesome! Thanks for all the tips guys. One more question, what the hell do you use for microphones? cuz I usually talk into a water bottle, but something tells me it won't pick up the right levels.

It is my belief that Audacity is the devil. The Deeeeeeeviiiil! But then again I'm super anal retentive about sound quality, more so than 95% of other podcast folk.
Audacity can do everything you need it to, but occasionally it does a bizarre "tin can" effect that's impossible to get rid of. Granted I haven't used it in a year and a half so new versions might be better but I hate that program more than Bill O'Reiley and I REALLY hate that guy.
Garageband 3 on the other hand has really great recording quality and has less glitchin' tendencies. I would suggest recording with Garageband and then editing with Audacity, so no matter what the original audio is decent.
The program I use to fine tune the program at the end is Sound Forge (which is no longer $800 it seems!) It's really an amazing program and there seems to be nothing on Mac's to rival it.
As for mics we have a snazzy set of two that Annie got. I have no idea what brand they are, but I've come to realize that mic's don't mean much. It's the pre amp that's the most important part! I am all about the M-Audio preamps. They are the most user-friendly and super great quality, while being on the cheaper end of preamp-age.
HOLY CRAP I MUST STOP WRITING THIS POST! JOURNEY JUST CAME ON MY IPOD!

PDLM you need to make a podcast and I would be happy to cohost it whenever you'd like!

Yup, Soundforge is probably the best of 'em (but then again, Audacity is Free (as in freedom)). And I just can't believe that you didn't make a crack about fuzzy black condoms right now. I'm disappointed

i'm gonna be one of your guy's mics for halloween! just so i can wear a fuzzy black condom on my head!
... then i'll go trick-or-treating and the old ladies will say "what are you?" and i'll say "i'm a microphone with a fuzzy black condom!" and they'll gasp and slam the door in my face! yay!
...and this is when someone says "you're too old to be going trick-or-treating anyway"...

I don't know... A fuzzy black condom on somebody's head sounds pretty scary to me.
