What are YOU up to?

I am working 2 days a week at a historical orange ranch, teaching kids about how orange farmers lived in 1900. This is what the house looks like:

There is a secret room in the house that was sealed off. Why don't they put secret rooms in houses anymore? There also may or may not be ghosts. Oooooh Wink

I also get to teach kids how to beat the dust out of rugs and how to do laundry with ye olde timey washboard and tub. Good times.

I am also going to college full time, working on my teaching credential, and observing in a high school art classroom 3 times a week. So. Boring.

In my spare time, I am enjoying http://dorothysurrenders.blogspot.com and www.jezebel.com and music by Birds Fled From Me ( www.myspace.com/birdsfledfromme ).

Oooh, imparting knowledge! And getting to hit things... with other things! Woo!! I always wanted to build a house with a secret room/passageway, although I always thought it would be pointless, seeing as all the architects, builders, etc would know about it...

I'm frantically trying to get through planning for a Hitchockian, dialogue-free, vaguely ironic, yet disturbing, short four minute slasher film based around the preconceptions of sexuality and gender politics... So basically your average pretentious student film... but with a tall scary German woman! Huzzah!

Apart from that, I'm still trying to find time to set up a podcast and a creativity, uh, resource, of sorts. Umm, yeah... That, as well as creating a few websites, including one for a comic... about a crime-fighting foetus... with telekinetic powers... it's pretty damn awesome... ( but of course not as awesome as any of the many fine web comics here, though... Undecided

*phew*)

In any free time I can shoe-horn in, I've been getting addicted to Radiohead, beyourownPET, The Kills, Nick Cave, and NEW Breeders (woop!), reading http://www.theangrypuppy.com/, and I have officially finished reading my first book in about a year. Yay.

So, what are YOU up to? (It's the grown up version of the talking hat... but with less hats)

I hearrrrrrrrts Radiohead, especially their new album. So good! There are a lot of bands that Colleen and I would have loved to play on the podcast, except they're too famous to ask permission (and also, the idea was to introduce people to lesser-known bands, not to play bands everyone's already heard of). I also have listened some to the Kills and some more to Nick Drake. Google search "Henry Lee" if you want to see the corniest Nick Drake music video ever (I loves me some PJ Harvey, but the woman makes terrible, terrible music videos).

Your film sounds awesome! There's something about the term "dialogue-free" that I like too... like next time I buy eggs at the market, I hope there's a big yellow sticker declaring "Now dialogue FREE!"

Lately I have been attempting to make my friend famous. She is awesome awesome awesome and thinks she will never be famous. I am trying to prove her wrong If you like, http://www.myspace.com/hillaryewallace . Most gorgeous voice i've ever heard come out of a 15 year old girl (well, 16 now)

As for the slogan, "feels fuzzy, tastes FABULOUS!", i would like to know who their advertising agent is.

See, now, maybe i'm OLD or something, but for me, OK Computer is (and always will be) the best. My heirarchy of Radiohead albums goes something like this...

Pablo Honey (umm... can we just pretend like this one never happened?)

Your friend Hillary has a really nice voice. She sounds like she's still working on finding her own personal singing "style" to me, but once she does that she will be really solid. Right now it sounds like she's trying out other people's styles to see what works for her (which is fine, after all, she is 16). She sounds like she has the kind of voice that would be well-suited for very personal songs.

I agree, your friend's got a really nice voice. Almost Vermillion Lies-y ('Louder'-singer), kinda Dresden Dolls-y slower stuff... Some nice song writing on the non-covers. It almost makes me forgive you for the spelling mistake... *grumble grumble* LLA! flashback *grumble grumble*

Oooh! Dentist flyers! I presume you're making up leaflets of sorts, and not actually crafting dentistry related flying things, like a mirror-on-a-stick that you can use as a makeshift arrow... On a tooth-cleaning note, I got bored, so I made up a fake brand of toothpaste:

I am planting baby plants into bigger pots by the thousands at work and trying not to beat hell out of my doppleganger with a bag of soil. I am also decorating my new digs and listening to old CDs like The Eurythmics Greatest Hits in my newly acquired car on my new 40-mile drive to work. I am recovering from not having the Internet for 20-some-odd days and taking lots of time catching up on all my favorite websites.
