RSS feeds?
07/02/08 at 4:10am

I'm starting to move over from my system of using bookmarks organized by the day of the week they update to RSS feeds which is the trendy thing to do these days and I realized that Reprographics is the only comic I read that doesn't have them. It's a shame too because with the irregular schedule getting Reprographics piped into Google Reader when it updates would be a big help.

Once I get back from San Diego, I am going to be overhauling the entire site and YES we will finally have RSS feeds for Repro and Toy Store updates.

I haven't used RSS for Web comics because I keep track of their update schedules (I used to have one folder for MWF updates and another for once-a-week updates).  Reprographics is a monkeywrench in that system, but I don't worry about it because I check it obsessively anyway.

ok..im probably the oldest person on this forum..(im turning 40 in a month..) and even though I have been on the internet literally every single day since 1996, I haven't the faintest clue what a RSS feed is..or why I should be excited about one..

could someone please explain how it will enhance my reprographics experience?

yeah I know..I could just google it..but this more fun!

thanks,
Scot

I obviously do not use RSS feeds either, but as far as I understand them, instead of going to various sites to check their content, you subscribe to their content (i.e. comics).

Then you open up your RSS reader and it brings all your subscribed content to you.  It's like having a personalized daily comics page I guess.

I'll be honest and say that the main reason I eschew this concept as I depend on people coming to my site and occasionally clicking around on all my other content (news, ads, art, etc)

It would be great if the comic itself made enough money to be the focus, but it's not.  Selling toys and taking puzzle commissions is how I stay in business.

Yup, that's jut about it.

I subscribe to new feeds and some blog feeds -- it's much easier to have the recent articles and entries sent straight to me instead of trying to dig through a news Web site or blog to find the latest (or updated) info.

Images in news feeds don't always work for me, though, which is why I don't use RSS for comics.  Plus it's more fun opening up 20 tabs in Firefox and watching my system not stall (new RAM yay!).

A lot of the time a comic's feed will only provide a link to the new comic, not the comic itself.

Well, I have a link in my Favorites named "Reprographics Bookmark". I'm not on the computer each and every day, and so whenever I do log on, I have a few Repros waiting for me. I reset this link's address to the most recent one (or the last one I have read) each time I use my computer. It's sort of a do-it-yourself RSS feed. I also have this for Nobody Scores!. All the other webcomics I read have LJ feeds and so I come across them as I read my livejournal friends page.

RSS feeds? We don' need no steenkin' RSS feeds.

I love my RSS feeds in Outlook.  Using RSS isn't going to stop people from coming to your site.  Its just really nice to get a message.

Blah Blah----comic 193 I love cheese---4/2/2009

and then click click, and i'm at the new comic.  I'm in it for the comic, not the toys, I doubt I will ever buy a baffler, or a ghost or a poop sign, but i do rather enjoy your comic!
